I wish we had the smell option on our blog; you would want a taste of my latest creation. I just removed these beauties from the oven.
Jean gave me this great book for my birthday; actually he asked what I would like and after reading Girlchef’s review; I mentioned this book. The Artisan Bread Machine has met more than my expectations.
This book is filled recipes that are so cool and different than the run of the mill Bread Machine books. While researching I found this Review from Girlchef ; she explains this book very well; not much I can add except give you some recipes will try along the way. On each recipe there are notes to help you understand what you are doing. You also have the choice to make different size loaves.
The bread I am featuring this week is not short of spectacular; here is the recipe:
Classic Butter Crust Bread
Evoking memories of small-town bakeries, this classic white loaf does it all- breakfast, toast, sandwiches, bread with a pot roast dinner. Leftovers make great croutons, French toast or bread pudding.
2 pounds
1/4 cup white sugar
2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups lukewarm buttermilk
1/4 cup butter, softened
4 cups of flour
1 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast
Topping
2 tsp butter melted
Directions:
1. Add sugar, salt, buttermilk and better to the bread pan.
2. Spoon flour on top of liquid. Add yeast.
3. Select Basic/White cycle and Light Crust setting and press Start.
Topping: After bread final rise and just before baking, press Pause.
Raise the lid, cut 1/2 inch slash down the length of the bread
and brush with melted butter. Close lid and press Start to continue cycle.
Tip: For Breakfast bread used dark brown sugar in place of granulated sugar.
If your bread machine does not have pause,
simply raise the lid, cut the slash, brush with butter and close the lid.
I am participating Bake Your Own Bread

Sage’s Tips
As you can see I actually shaped and baked mine in the oven.
I usually make my bread with 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 white flours.
I will be back with more tasty treats and a secret ingredient to help you bread rise.
Thank you for your visit. I am excited…February this week!
Happy Cooking.
Rita

I tried like heck to get this book for the cookbook give-away I did a while back. As a matter of fact, I forgot I had it on my "Wish List" for personal use. As you may remember, Rita, I have a very bad case of yeastaphobia! However, after reading Heather's post and now seeing your heavenly bread, I do believe it is high time I buy another bread machine. (I had one once and gave it away thinking I was a "purist who could make her own bread:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reminding me and for "breaking" bread with us this chilly day. I suppose January is National Bread Machine Month for a very good reason!
I am so grateful you are sharing your great bread recipes..I will make this Rita..Merci beaucoup et bon dimanche!
ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful. If I close my eyes I can just smell those delicious loaves :) I used the bread machine a few times, like you I shaped the loaf and baked in the oven otherwise it would have been a funny squarer shaped loaf from my machine.
ReplyDeleteI want a bread machine!!! Your bread looks fantastic, Rita.
ReplyDeleteDear Rita, I am sure that this bread filled the house with deliciousness!! Blessings from your friend, Catherine xo
ReplyDeleteNothing beats home made bread...Your loaves look delicious!

ReplyDeleteRita, they look wonderful! I now feel I need a bread machine, or knead machine! :)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I read a post like this about how wonderful bread machines are I am tempted to run out and buy one. I'm working on my bread baking skills but I haven't turned out a loaf as beautiful as that one.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is professional work!Goodness me! You could easily open a bakery. I wish I could taste one right now! Well done!
ReplyDeleteWish there was a smell option too! We should create one!
ReplyDeleteBut I can easily imagine the smell of your fabulous breads because I am cooking Chapatis.
Those breads are really perfect! Bravo!
Have a nice week.
I'm just beginning to experiment with bread making...I love the idea of letting the machine do the work and then shaping and baking it yourself...great post!
ReplyDeleteDid you see Rita?? many of us are making bread this week (lol) I love make bread and yours look amazing!!Look perfect!!
ReplyDeleteRita, your bread look awesome...love how they turned out...they all look very professional, I love my bread machine, but just use for kneading ;-)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week ahead!
I know what you mean about having a smell option but that might be frustrating without a taste option too!
ReplyDeleteYour loaves look perfect and I can only imagine how good they were! I like to bake bread but haven't invested in a bread machine but I know people who use them give nothing but rave reviews;-)
My book is already falling apart! I'm glad that you're enjoying it, as well! =)
ReplyDeleteBread fresh from the oven is the best gift. Your loaves look outstanding. I have a problem with portion control when it comes to bread.
ReplyDeletelovely bread and your comment made my day don't you just love digestive biscuits :-) hugs
ReplyDeleteHi, sweet friend, this bread looks good enuf to kill for, but, alas, I have no bread machine. I do love fresh, homemade bread. Yummm
ReplyDeleteGreat looking loaves of bread, Rita. I use all my leftover bread for French toast or pudding as you suggested. The bread machine sure does make a difference and is a big helper in the kitchen.
ReplyDeletePerfectly looking bread!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you shape them.
I specialized in Challahs, but I think the texture is close to your bread.
Love it
Oooo I'll have to look for this book. I like making it in my bread machine! I love seeing all your loaves. :)
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks incredible! I love the perfect slash you made across the top - looks so professional! (Perhaps a bread machine would prevent foibles like my recent bread making mis-adventure?? LOL)
ReplyDeleteRita, these loaves look beautiful and if they truly have the aroma of old-time bakery loaves you have a real winner on your hands. I really have to try this. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteI was so disappointed in my bread machine, I gave it away years ago and opted to oven bake instead. Now, I wish I still had it. Your bread looks amazin'.
ReplyDelete....and dear, I can almost smell it's wonderful aroma through the screen.
God bless ya and have a fantastic day!!! :o)
I don't have a bread machine, but my mother brought me a kitchen-aid stand mixer as a present, so I really don't have an excuse as to why I haven't made bread yet.
ReplyDeleteYours sounds so versatile, and looks so golden, fluffy, and perfect.
Rita, that is one beautiful loaf of bread! This book sounds like a true gem. I can hardly wait to hear about your secret baked good ingredient!
ReplyDeleteI do have a bread machine but lately because i am on a diet I don't use it that often. These loaves of bread Rita are simply delicious! I, too, love the smell of bread when it is baked and when it comes warm out of the oven I cannot resist!

ReplyDeleteThat bread looks amazing. I am so scared of even attempting to make it.
What a beautiful loaf of bread! It sounds like a wonderful cookbook. I'm hoping to bake some bread this year.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like home-baked bread though I don't make it much any more. It's just too tempting. I would eat it all.
ReplyDeleteNothing like fresh bread and the fragrance that fills the air as it bakes. You've inspired me to get the yeast out and bake something this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's in the bread machine now Rita:) I'll shape them also..we don't like baking in the machine either~
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know:)
I don't have a bread machine but I've made bread and it is the most divine experience, the smell is amazing! Great recipe!

I love homemade breads. I've never had the best experience with the bread machine, so I need to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteYet another reason to dust off my bread machine! These loaves look perfect- I really wish there was a "smell" option, because I know these smelled (and tasted) wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to have a bread machine and made fresh bread all the time...I can still remember the smells from the kitchen :) This looks wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteI saw this book other day in the library but next one was "Savory Baking from the Mediterranean" so got that one. U know I don't have bread machine but I'm putting my stand mixer & oven to good use now a days......trying to make atleast 1 bread in a week. I can imagine the aroma of this freshly baked bread.....I use almost similar recipe but I'm using EVOO instead of butter(I know butter will make it much better) & honey instead of sugar.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love to use buttermilk, texture is so good with it.
Your loaves are looking so good.....looking forward for your tip/secret ingredient to make bread rise everytime.
Ils sont si parfaits:) Rien de tel qu'un bon pain chaud tout droit sorti du four!! Bon jeudi ma belle;)xxx
ReplyDeletehow do you cut the bread prior to baking? I used this recipe but when i went to cut the bread it just pinched and sank the top of the loaf. thanks for the wonderful recipe
ReplyDeleteI used a very sharp blade like a razor or scalpel blade and gently made my incision; a knife is not sharp enough. So sorry; I should have made a not about this.
